Meet Our Principal

Ms. Raquel Rodriguez Jones

Raquel Rodríguez Jones has worked in Oakland Unified School District since 1997, first as a bilingual teacher at Hawthorne Elementary then as a founding teacher of International Community School, where she taught bilingual and sheltered English third, fourth and fifth grades. She served as a Science Lead Teacher and on the Instructional Leadership Team while at ICS. Raquel’s son attended ICS from 3rd through 5th grades. Raquel worked for four years as a STEM Coordinator with OUSD’s Central Office, supporting both science and math in elementary schools before returning to ICS to be principal.

Raquel was born in Tulare, California, to parents working with the United Farm Workers Union and has lived in many parts of the United States.

Raquel is a graduate of Oakland’s Merritt Community College where she got her Associates in Arts and was Student Body President. She transferred to Cal Berkeley and received her Bachelor of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies. Raquel received her Master’s in Educational Leadership from REACH Institute for School Leadership and completed her Administrative Credential from Cal’s Principal Leadership Institute.
